CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR COAST GUARD CIVILIANS

When it comes to the Coast Guard, policies related to voluntary education – tuition assistance, availability of testing-for-college-credit programs, availability of licensing and certification tests, etc. – applies equally to uniformed and civilian personnel. For example, when it comes to financial aid for education loans as well as many grants and scholarships are available to civilian employees.

With respect to specifically job-related aspects of career development there's very little on the Internet for civilian employees of the federal government. Career development with respect to civilian employees means

According to the Coast Guard's Civilian Human Resources web site, "the employee must assume primary responsibility for career planning and personal development. Development will not occur if an employee does not have the ability and desire to grow."

The purpose of these pages is to provide information to help civilians reach whatever goals they have for their civil service careers.
