Simply fill out the mentor application, email it to the CMC Dawn Smith , and your name will be added to a list of potential mentors. To become a leadership mentor, you will need the recommendation of your supervisor.
You can choose one or several areas in which you could mentor junior personnel.
The primary areas are:
EDUCATION: Assist someone in pursuing their education goals. Share your experience with Coast Guard sponsored programs, local colleges, advanced degrees, etc.
LEADERSHIP: We all have the potential to be effective leaders; sometimes we just need the right tools and incentive to get started. Share your leadership lessons with someone to get them headed in the right direction.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND ADVANCEMENT: Share your successes and lessons learned with taking the service wide exam, obtaining quotas to Coast Guard training, pursuing officer programs, etc.
FAMILY ISSUES: Friends helping friends...shipmates helping shipmates. As we are such a mobile population, it takes a great deal of time and effort to learn about each new community into which we move.
