The Company Commander School trains the petty officers and chief petty officers that train the recruits. All enlisted personnel assigned to Training Center Cape May as Company Commander, Section Commander and Battalion Commander must attend Company Commander School.
This eight week program consist of classroom lectures, practical exercises, role-play scenarios, and case studies involving military drill, leadership, coaching, Standard Operating Procedures for Recruit Training, time and stress management and physical fitness. In addition to successful competition of the school, the prospective Company Commander must be certified as an instructor and must be approved by a Board composed of the Regimental Officer, the Battalion Officer and the Battalion Commander. Company Commander and other Recruit Regimental assignments are special duty assignments. Members interested in Company Commander duty must meet the requirements as outlined in Articles 4.E.2.a and 4.E.8 of COMDINST M1000.6, Coast Guard Personnel Manual. In summary, members must meet the eligibility requirements for special duty assignments and meet the additional following qualifications:
For initial assignment as Company Commander, be an E-4 and above the cut for E5.
Have a high level of maturity and even temperament.
Have no physical limitations that would prevent participation in rigorous physical training such as running and swimming. All Company Commanders must pass a semi-annual physical fitness test.
Have exceptional personal appearance.
Have demonstrated an interest in teaching.
A recent tour of sea duty is desirable.
Members interested in CC duty should submit an assignment data card, CG HRSIC-2002. A commanding officers endorsement giving the following information must accompany the ADC.
A definite recommendation.
A copy of the closed out CG-3306 showing average marks and a copy of the most recent CG-3306 showing recent factor marks.
Comment on any pronounced speech patterns such as accents or defects.
Comments on member's leadership abilities and his/her ability to train junior personnel.
Comments on member's performance.
Marital status and dependents.
The commanding officer of the member who request CC
duty must conduct an interview to determine if the candidate is fully
qualified as described in Articles 4.E.2.a and 4.E.8 of the Coast Guard
Personnel Manual.
