The Family Advocacy Program is a Congressionally mandated program intended to prevent and reduce the incidence of family violence and create an environment of intolerance for such behavior. Education and proper intervention and rehabilitation services result in prevention of the escalation of violence, serious injury and homicide. Services are provided to retain active duty members in their Coast Guard careers and support the accomplishment of the Coast Guard mission.
Family violence includes child physical, emotional, and or sexual abuse and neglect by a parent or caregiver; and partner physical, emotional and or sexual abuse. All reports of suspected child abuse/neglect are reported to state child protection agencies for investigation. Services provided through the Family Advocacy Program include, victim safety planning; domestic violence assessment and case management services. Some services provided include, anger management; domestic violence programs; parenting classes, couples communication and substance abuse programs.These services or resources can be obtained by contacting the Family Advocacy Specialist (FAS) at Training Center Cape May’s Work-Life Staff.
