FOREIGN DEGREES
If you received a degree from a college or university located somewhere other than one of the 50 United States, and want to transfer the credits you earned to a college or university in the 50 states, you will likely have to have your degree evaluated by a foreign educational credential evaluation service.
These services examine documents for accuracy and authenticity and, based on appropriate reference material and current research, determine credit and grade equivalents between foreign and U.S. schools and students' overall equivalent U.S. grade point average. Their reports help colleges determine eligibility for admission and transferability of credit in most fields.
An organization called NACES
oversees foreign credential evaluation services to ensure uniform quality of
their evaluations. NACES member organizations provide expertise on the
educational systems, institutions, programs, and documents of other
countries and U.S. territories and possessions.
Before you have an evaluation done by a
NACES member
organization, check with the school you want to take courses from and ask
which foreign educational credential evaluation services it will accept
reports from. This is very important. Since you'll
have to pay for the report, you want to make sure that report is one your
target school will accept as valid.
