Command Master Chief

After graduating from Recruit Training at Training Center Cape May, N.J. in 1986, Master Chief Cowart returned some 27 years later as the Command Master Chief in July of 2013.

In between his assignments to Training Center Cape May, Master Chief’s duties allowed him to travel to 16 countries on five continents and included assignments to the Cutter Vigorous in New London, Conn., Station Tybee Island, Ga., Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., Air Station Savannah, Ga., the Aviation Repair and Supply Center in Elizabeth City, N.C., Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., the Aviation Technical Training Center in Elizabeth City, Air Station Elizabeth City, and Air Station Sitka, Alaska.

A native of Savannah, Master Chief graduated from the Chief Petty Officers Academy at Training Center Petaluma, Calif., in 2001 and the Senior Enlisted Leadership Course at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., in 2008.

Master Chief Cowart’s awards include the Silver Lifesaving Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal (2), Coast Guard Achievement Medal (4) Antarctic and Arctic Service Medals, Coast Guard Sea Service Ribbon and numerous other individual and unit awards.
