CO's Biography

Prior to taking command at ALC, CAPT Edward J. Gibbons served as the Commanding Officer at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod. He is an Aircraft Commander in the HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter, the Coast Guard's Medium Range Rescue helicopter. (Air Station Cape Cod operates a complement of four HH-60J Helicopters and four HU-25 Falcon jet aircraft as the primary provider of aviation services to the Operational Commanders of the First Coast Guard District.) During his tour, CAPT Gibbons also oversaw one of the Coast Guard's support complexes that provide medical, supply, environmental, facility maintenance, personnel, MWR, and Chaplain services to the Massachusetts Military Reservation.

Previous assignments include HH-60J Product Line Manager (PLM) at Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. As PLM, CAPT Gibbons oversaw all Engineering, Supply, and Depot Repair support to the Coast Guard's fleet of HH-60J Jayhawk helicopters. From 1997-2000, CAPT Gibbons served as the Aviation Engineering Officer at Coast Guard Activities, San Diego. From 1993-1997, he was assigned as the Rotary Wing Assistant Aviation Engineering Officer at Air Station Miami, where he served as an Instructor Pilot and Aircraft Commander of the HH-65A Dolphin helicopter. CAPT Gibbons' first tour in Coast Guard Aviation was at Group/Air Station Astoria Oregon, during which he was selected for the Aviation Maintenance Officer program. Prior to flight training, and after graduating from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1985, CAPT Gibbons served as a Deck Watch Officer on the USCGC BOUTWELL (WHEC-719), then home ported in Seattle, Washington.

CAPT Gibbons holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the US Coast Guard Academy and a Master of Business Administration Degree from City University in Seattle, Washington. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal, the Coast Guard Unit Commendation, the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Team Commendation, and several others.

CAPT Gibbons grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
