Coast Guard Cutter USCGC TAMAROA (WMEC-166) battles heavy seas while on North Atlantic fisheries patrol of the U.S. 200-mile limit zone.  This extension of protection of resources by the U.S. became effective under the Fisheries Conservation and Management Act of March 1, 1977."

Original Caption: "The Coast Guard Cutter Tamaroa (WMEC-166) played a major role in the rescue of an Air National Guard helicopter crew, deployed from Suffolk County, Long Island to assist Coast Guard search and rescue assets.  The helicopter was forced to ditch in heavy seas.  Tamaroa rescued four, and searched vainly for a fifth crewman."
