Medical Management of Chemical/ Biological Casualties (MCBC)

Purpose:
The Medical Management of Chemical and Biological Casualties (MCBC) classroom discussion includes the:

  • History and current threat of chemical and biological agent use
  • Characteristics of threat agents
  • Pathophysiology and treatment of agent exposure
  • Principles of field management of threat agent casualties.

In the laboratory, attendees gain valuable, hands-on experience by participating in the resuscitation of a lab animal exposed to a nerve agent simulant. In the field, attendees practice the principles of personal protection, triage, treatment and decontamination of chemical casualties. During this six-day exercise, attendees learn the capabilities and limitations of Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) when treating casualties in a contaminated environment.

Attendees:
Required for Medical Officers within 3 years of assignment.  Recommended for all Pharmacy, Dental and Environmental Health Officers.

To request the training, fax the Short Term Training Request (CG-5223) to 202-475-5909, Attn: CG-1121 Training Manager. Ensure you fill out the following blocks: #1-13, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23,  (24, if applicable). The request must have the applicants Emplid, unit address, supervisor’s name and signature. Also required in your request is an estimate of travel, per diem costs, registration costs and course dates.
