Kirsten D. Madison became Director of International Affairs and Foreign Policy Advisor to the Commandant in October 2008.
Prior to coming to the United States Coast Guard, Ms. Madison served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. She came to the position after serving as the Director for Central American and Caribbean Basin Affairs at the National Security Council. Prior to entering Executive Branch service, Ms. Madison was the Senior Advisor to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States. She also spent ten years on Capitol Hill, serving first as the foreign affairs and national security staffer and Legislative Director in the office of Representative Porter Goss and then as a senior professional staff member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Ms. Madison holds a M. Sc. (ECON) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a B.A. from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.
