Your Career, E-resume, and OS Assignments

Urban Legend or Fact

Assignment Year

From the OS Assignment Officers:

Congratulations to all of those who took the May 2011 SWE.  We do not know what the cuts will be yet but for those of you who scored high on the SWE we hope you are excited about the opportunities ahead of you. We are all very fortunate to be in a rate where advancement is possible and we wish all of you the best of luck in your career.
If you anticipate that you might advance you do not need to contact us directly to determine if you will fleet up or rotate in assignment year 2012 (AY12).  We will work through your chain of command to address fleet ups, rotations, and extensions.  Units should forward command concerns to address those who may be available for a fleet up, rotation, or an extension in AY12.  Units are also highly encouraged to contact us directly to discuss any command concerns including fleet ups, extension request, or rotations.  Please use your chain of command and e-resume to forward us your concerns.  We also strongly recommend that you monitor the CGMS message board for additional PSC (epm) AY12 SITREPs.
If you desire career counseling you may communicate with us but please schedule this through your Chief or chain of command so we can set aside time for each of you who desire career counseling ideally for everyone on the same day if that is possible.  We strongly suggest that at a minimum everyone rotating in AY12 use the career and e-resume guidance that we have published to help you understand how we will assign you and how you should draft your e-resume. The e-resume guidance should help you if you read it carefully and use it.  This guidance is available at the following web sites:
http://www.uscg.mil/psc/epm/AO/OS.asp
https://cgportal.uscg.mil/lotus/myquickr/os-rfmc/os-assignment-officer-notes
If it is late in the assignment season and you are absolutely uncertain of whether or not you will fleet up or rotate in AY12 and you have questions you may ask them but please go through your Chief or chain of command and ask if they have already addressed your concerns. It is best if we work with commands to engage all of the concerns including fleet ups, extensions, and rotations.  We will do our best to ensure all of your concerns are taken into consideration.  Again, it is highly  recommended that a point of contact from each unit contact us directly to address all of the unit and member concerns at one time for AY12.
Please be patient and we will do all we can to make assignment year 2012 successful.  Thanks and have a great Coast Guard day.
