CAPT Joseph McGuinessCaptain Joseph McGuiness assumed the duties as Commander, Sector Sault Sainte Marie on 18 June 2010.  Captain McGuiness came to Sector Sault Sainte Marie from the First District Office in Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as Executive Assistant to the District Commander; Chief, Enforcement Branch; Chief, Incident Management Branch; and Chief, External Affairs Division.  

In prior assignments, he served ashore supporting Aids to navigation and Domestic Icebreaking programs, and as the Officer in Charge of Vessel Traffic Service Prince William Sound.  His afloat assignments include Navigator, USCGC WOODRUSH, Executive Officer, USCGC THUNDER BAY, and Commanding Officer of cutters CUSHING, BRISTOL BAY, and MACKINAW.  

Captain McGuiness is a 1985 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Management.  He received a Masters of Science in Business Administration from Emory Riddle University, he also holds a Master Mariner's license.
