Sector
Tuition Assistance (TA): each
officer, enlisted member, and civilian employee may receive up to $4500 a year
not to exceed $250 a credit from TA. TA
does not cover lab, book, and enrollment fees.
Supplemental Education Grant (SEG)
through CG Mutual Assistance: SEG is
designed to provide financial assistance to each member of the CG family and
eligible dependants including spouse and unmarried children under 23 years of
age. CGMA SEG will pay $250 each
calendar year to assist with lab, book, and enrollment fees while completing
your first Associate or Bachelors Degree.
SEG is not authorized for personnel seeking their second Bachelor or
under graduate degree.
DANTES/ CLEP: DANTES/ CLEPS can be ordered and administered
by your unit’s Test Control Officer (TCO) or at a local college at no cost to
you.
Coast Guard Foundation Education
Grant: The CGFEG is available to high
performing personnel in pay grades E3 toE9.
CGFEB will pay up to $350 a year to help cover lab, book, enrollment fees,
and additional expenses not funded through other educational resources.
Vander Putten Family Scholarship: VPFS program is for active duty members E-3
to E-9 and reserve members E-3 to E-9 currently serving on active duty orders
for at least one year. The VPFS program
provides up to $500 reimbursement for text books and miscellaneous educational
expenses not covered by the CGFEG.
2. Advancement Opportunities:
Service
Wide Exam (SWE): The most common
advancement process for enlisted personnel is through the SWE process. Details are outlined in the SWE Guide,
PSCINST M1481.1. All EOCT, PQS, EER’s
and CO’s recommendation must be completed by 1Aug for the Nov SWE, 1Feb for the
May SWE and 1Jul for the Oct RSWE.
ALGENL and ALCGRSV contain the 2009 SWE requirements.
End Of
Course Test (EOCT): Many of the rates
require that you complete EOCT prior to competing in the SWE or being place on
a supplement advancement list. More

Selected Reserve
Direct Commission Programs (SRDC):
Applicants are required meet the minimum requirements in the CG
Personnel Manual and the time lines listed in ALCGRECRUITING messages.
Chief
Warrant Officer Appointment: The
eligibility requirements are outlined in the CG Personnel Manual, COMDTINST
M1000.6a, Sec. 1.D. Addition
requirements can be found in the CWO Appointment Guide. CGPC will announce the CWO application process
timeline via an ALCGPERSCOM message usually in Nov or Dec. Personnel should pay particular attention to
these messages and timeline postings, waivers are typically not granted for
late submissions.
