Unit Information

Station Small Washington Island is a seasonal station open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During this time, the station is manned by active duty and reserve ‘summer stock’ personnel. The station is located in a remodeled chalet in Detroit Harbor on the southern end of Washington Island. The unit is equipped with a thirty foot utility boat, UTM 301010. The station performs the same summer missions of SAR and LE as Station Sturgeon Bay. When closed during the winter, the personnel return to Sturgeon Bay until the following summer. Designated a Station Small, the unit is under the command of the Station Sturgeon Bay OINC, yet the Washington Island Supervisor (BM1) is a direct representative of the OINC. All Washington Island personnel are actually assigned to Station Sturgeon Bay, and live in Sturgeon Bay.
