


Station St. Joseph
Originally established in 1874 and renovated in 1997, this station houses a 47’ MLB, a 25’ Defender-B, and a 14’ Ice Skiff. Living up to the Coast Guards’ motto of “Semper Paratus”, the station patrols an AOR of approximately 850 square miles of Lake Michigan and on average prosecutes 175 SAR cases, conducts 350-400 law enforcement boarding’s and enforces the permanent security zones for two nuclear power plants. Station St Joseph is also Ice Capable and can conduct SAR involving incidents on the ice.
Some of the great things about St. Joseph are the community events. Some of the highlights include Venetian Festival, a large festival centered around boating and the lakefront, the Tri-State Sailboat Regatta, and many other community festivals. The Steelhead Triathlon attract large numbers of participants and is gaining national recognition as a qualifier for the Iron Man Triathlon.
St Joseph attracts large numbers summer tourists, drawn to the world class beaches. Silver Beach is often rated as one of the top ten beaches in the US.
