Industrial Production Facility, Detroit

Industrial Production Facility (IPF) Detroit provides depot level maintenance and production services to operational units in District 9. These services include pipefitting, metal working, carpentry, fiberglassing and fabrication of flexible hoses. IPF Detroit is the Coast Guard’s Center of Excellence for Hose Making, being the first industrial production facility to stand up a hose making shop. Now IPF Detroit fabricates hoses for units across the Coast Guard. IPF Detroit also has a 40 ton travel lift, used for small boat availabilities and is one of two industrial facilities in the Coast Guard which provide facility maintenance functions. Co-located with Sector Detroit, the IPF receives direction from the Industrial Operations Division (IOD) of the SFLC. There is a team of highly skilled technicians working at the IPF as well as purchasing/financial specialists who ensure contracts are completed safely and efficiently.

Industrial Production Detachment (IPD) Sault Ste Marie is a small industrial detachment subordinate to IPF Detroit, providing similar services on a smaller scale. IPD Sault Ste Marie has a 50 ton travel lift and a 17.5 ton crane. They perform many small boat availabilities as well as depot level maintenance for cutters in their AOR.
