ICEBREAKER CLEARS WAY FOR SHIPPING ON

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2008

Maumee River Algosteel Gradel Tug Neah Bay

Neah Bay    The Algosteel, the Canadian freighter

pictured below, is about to leave the

   Toledo Shipyard's dry docks after

spending over a month on repairs.

Heavy ice on the Maumee River

   made passage impossible without

the aid of the USCG Cutter Neah    Algosteel

Bay, shown left clearing a way to

the Lake.  Icebreaker operations,

such as performed by the George

Gradel tug, below, also play an

important role in vessel traffic.

Gradel Tug    In this case, the tug is clearing

    the entryway of the Toledo

    Shipyard's dry dock doors,

allowing them to open into the

    channel.
