Aids to Navigation

The Aids to Navigation (AtoN) capabilities of the MACKINAW (WLBB-30) are equivalent to that installed on the 225’ Historic Tender Class Buoy Tenders.

The Buoy Handling System has the following equipment and capabilities:

85 ton Deck Load
3133 sq ft Heated Buoy Deck
Hold for Chain Stowage
Mechanical & Hydraulic Chain Stoppers
Centerline Automated Control Station
40,000 lb capacity Crane with main hoist & whip, capable of covering 98% of the buoy deck
Cross Deck Winches, Chain Winch & Powered Griping System to handle the buoys
Ability to service and maintain fixed and floating aids to navigation up to a 9 x 38 Coast Guard standard buoy
Dynamic Positioning System (DP), able to maintain position and heading for AtoN & buoy deck evolutions
