A tour of the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit includes a 10-15 minute video followed by a brief given by an helicopter air crewmen with a demonstration of flight and survival gear used on a daily basis. Following this brief, groups will get a tour of the Air Station to include a hands-on tour of the HH-65C Dolphin helicopter. The tour length depends on the size of the group and the number of questions asked.
For tours, please ensure you have sufficient chaperones for children of school age groups. Expect only 1-2 tour guides who may need assistance with larger groups (over 20). Also, smaller groups tend to get more out of the tour, so keeping group size to less than 30 improves the experience.
To reach the Air Station, you will need access to Selfridge ANGB. If you have a military ID Card with a vehicle decal, you should not have any problems. If you need special access, you will need a driver's license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance for each vehicle that you will bring aboard the installation. Please be prepared for slight delays when attempting to enter SANGB and please coordinate your arrival with the Public Affairs Officer for specific instructions.
