Contact the XPO concerning housing assignment prior to arrival. You must be released from government housing before you start a rental contract off base. The station has 24 family housing units consisting of (4) 4 bedroom, (13) 3 bedroom, and (7) 2 bedroom units. Single members will most likely live in the seven-room Unaccompanied Personnel Housing (UPH).
You must also contact the station for transportation if arriving via commercial airline into New Orleans. Notify unit Officer of the Day if flight is delayed into New Orleans due to travel time from Grand Isle to New Orleans. Contact info: (985) 787-2136.
The average cost of a 2 bedroom house on the economy is between $1000 to $1500. Housing on the economy is limited during the summer months.
Most military personnel and their dependants receive medical care at clinics and hospitals located in Golden Meadow, Raceland and Houma. Military members are automatically enrolled into Tricare Prime Remote (Region 4). Tricare is optional for military family members but highly recommended if you have no other form of healthcare coverage. United Concordia Dental coverage is available for military members and dependents.
There is a toll bridge on LA Hwy 1 located in Leeville. The toll is $3.00 for non-residents and free for Grand Isle residents and all members of the Coast Guard stationed in Grand Isle. Incoming members are required to contact the station XPO to obtain a memo authorization for the resident rate. This memo and the application form must be presented in person to the toll administration office located at 1821 South Alex Plaisance (Hwy 3235), Golden Meadow, LA.
