The Waterways Division handles the day-to-day waterways
management issues that continually arise on our busy waterways. They
are responsible for waterways management; hazardous materials
explosives handling on the waterfront. Harbor safety, MTSA, and ensure
pollution prevention regulations are enforced through harbor patrols.
The Waterways division is involved in a broad scope of projects,
including, but not limited to:
• Working with MTSA-regulated
facilities on security plan issues, including upcoming TWIC
amendments
• Providing outreach to
facilities on MTSA/TWIC issues
• Serving as Homeport
Administrators for the MSU Lake Charles AOR The waterways division also provides outreach to our maritime
stakeholders on a wide range of port security issues; interface with
other government agencies on all port security and pollution prevention
issues; coordinate/facilitate committees and
working
groups. These committees and working groups are made up from volunteer
members from the maritime and/or regulated communities within our MSU
Lake Charles Area of Responsibility (AOR). They include:
• Calcasieu River Waterway
Harbor Safety
Committee: local, state, and Federal waterway
stakeholders who ensure
that all waterways users have free and unobstructed use of our
Federal
navigable waters
• Port of Lake Charles: Local
freight port
