The Response Department facilitates the Southwest Louisiana Area Maritime Security Committee. Comprised of stakeholders from various organizations with the maritime, emergency management, and law enforcement communities, the AMS committee addresses area maritime security issues and initiatives to ensure coordination, communication, and response to maritime security incidents

The Response Department also administers the Port Security Grant Program at the field level, conducts annual maritime security risk assessments, works closely with the Prevention Department to facilitate implementation of the Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentialing Program, represents the Coast Guard on the U.S. Attorney’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council and supports the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The Response Department actively promotes AMS through regular presentations for industry, first responder and community groups as well as through participation in the following committees and working groups:

Southwest Louisiana Area Maritime Security Committee: Comprised of security professionals from industry; federal, state and local law enforcement representatives; federal, state and local homeland security and emergency preparedness. This committee meets regularly to identify regional maritime security concerns and to develop strategies to mitigate these concerns through awareness and prevention. The committee has developed and maintains a maritime security contingency plan and a strategic plan for risk management and mitigation and validates the plans through participation in exercises, drills and operations.

Southwest Louisiana Mutual Aid Association: Comprised of members from industry and federal, state and local government with the goal of mutual assistance during emergency response.
