LCDR Rodriguez was commissioned in 2000 at the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School in New London, CT. Since her commissioning, she has had a diverse career of operational and staff assignments in the Marine Safety and Ports, Waterways and Coastal Security mission areas. Upon her commissioning, LCDR Rodriguez was assigned to the Systems Engineering Staff in Coast Guard Headquarters where she assisted the Resources Division in various program management issues.
In 2002 LCDR Rodriguez was assigned to Group/Marine Safety Office Los Angeles-Long Beach and began her marine prevention career as a Marine Inspector. During this tour, she qualified under several diverse vessel types, facilities, containers, and security. In addition, LCDR Rodriguez qualified as Command Duty Officer, overseeing pollution and security responses. In 2004 she assumed the duties of Chief of Port Facilities and Container Compliance for Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach where she was responsible for implementing the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA) through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
In 2006, LCDR Rodriguez was assigned as Chief of the Investigations Division for Sector Baltimore. Highlights of this tour included overseeing the investigation into the grounding of the coal carrier MONTROSE in the Chesapeake Bay and the unsolved death of a commercial fisherman whose vessel was sunk after being struck by another vessel. In 2010, LCDR Rodriguez was assigned to the Office of Budget and Programs at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. to serve as the Program Reviewer for the Coast Guard’s Human Resources directorate, the Offices of Shore and Boat Forces, and the Search and Rescue Directorate.
A native of Virginia, LCDR Rodriguez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from James Madison University and a Masters in Public Administration from The George Washington University. Her military awards include the Coast Guard Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal (2), Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and various unit and team awards. She is authorized to wear the permanent Marine Safety Insignia. LCDR Rodriguez is married to Kevin Rodriguez and they are the proud parents of Erik and Sophia Rodriguez.
