Congratulations on your assignment to CYPRESS. Life at sea is arduous but rewarding. Being a sailor and going to sea form the roots of our service. Whether this assignment will be your only afloat tour, or one among many, CYPRESS will provide you with some of your best memories of the service.
Work in the aids to navigation (ATON) mission is very rewarding. The Gulf Coast contains many busy ports, and a successful day of ATON work produces immediate results that are clearly visible to local mariners. As a whole, CYPRESS’ area of operations covers the Gulf Coast from Brownsville, TX to Appalachee Bay, FL. While aboard CYPRESS, you will have the opportunity to see a variety of places and become familiar with multiple Coast Guard missions.
CYPRESS is home ported in Mobile, AL but has been operating out of Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL since late 2009 due to shallow water conditions in CYPRESS’ home port channel.
CYPRESS is a great ship with a great crew and you will be a part of that. Due to CYPRESS relatively small crew size, many professional opportunities will be available to you. You need only work hard to take advantage of them.
I look forward to serving with you and watching your future success.
Lieutenant Commander
Paul Morgan
Commanding Officer
