CG 24503 is a Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water (SPC-SW for short) to be utilized for shallow water rescue and security missions. The new vessel’s LOA is 27 feet and has a beam of 8 feet 6 inches. The SPC-SW replaced the non-standard 23 foot SAFE boat that the station used for inshore missions. The draft of the SPC-SW is 2 feet at normal operation condition; however the coxswain may use a jack plate and lift the twin Honda 150 horsepower outboards to achieve a shallow operation draft of only 1 foot 5 inches.
The SPC-SW can operate safely in 4 foot seas and 25 knots of wind. It carries onboard a high tech FURUNO navigation package that mirrors the other small boats currently in use by the Coast Guard and integrates a heading sensor, DGPS, RADAR and chart plotting system in to an easy to read and readily accessible display.
