Captain Mike Long is currently assigned to Sector Miami as the Deputy Sector Commander. Prior to this assignment, he was the Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché in charge of the Military Liaison Office at the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
His operational field assignments include Response Department Head and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator at Sector Puget Sound, Marine Environmental Protection Chief, Compliance Branch Chief and Marine Casualty Investigator at Marine Safety Office New Orleans, and Chemical Response Officer and Assistant Operations Officer at the Gulf Strike Team. Captain Long’s staff tours include serving as Executive Assistant to the Coast Guard’s Director of Port Security, Assistant Director of the Coast Guard’s International Port Security Program, and Duty Officer at the National Response Center.
Captain Long is a 1992 graduate of Coast Guard Officer Candidate School. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Resource Management and Planning from the University of West Florida and earned a Master in Public Administration from Florida State University.
He and his wife Amy Alexandra have two children – son Ethan Alexander and daughter Luisa Bella.
