Master Chief Morris enlisted in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in March 1987. After graduation from basic recruit training at Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, NJ, he is assigned to the Long Range Aids to Navigation Station in Hokkaido, Japan. Upon completion of this overseas assignment, he reports to Support Center Elizabeth City, NC, where he remains until attending Aviation Machinist Mate “A” school at the Aviation Technical Training Center Elizabeth City, NC. Since graduation, Master Chief Morris completes one tour at the Aviation Technical Training Center and Air Station Elizabeth City, NC, two tours at Air Station Borinquen, PR, two tours at the USCG’s Aviation Logistics Center, Elizabeth City, NC, one tour at Air Station Sacramento, CA, and a recent tour with the US Army at Ft. Bliss, TX.
Master Chief Morris’ most recent command duties include providing both the policy and management for 137 depot-level Quality Assurance inspectors and governmental contract oversight for 300 maintenance contractors. His command collateral duties include, Human Relation Council member, Coast Guard Mentor, Senior Health Promotions Coordinator, International Standards Internal Lead Auditor, Senior Course Developer and Trainer for USCG Aviation Fleet Maintenance Resource Management program, Lean Manufacturing Leader, Command Casualty Assistance Calls Officer, and Critical Incident Stress Management Facilitator.
Master Chief Morris’ extensive education includes his enrollment with Excelsior College, where he is pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice with a focus in Homeland Security. He attended the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, where upon graduation he earned the prestigious General Ralph E. Haines, Jr. Award for Research. Additionally, Master Chief Morris attended the USCG Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, US Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, USCG Chief Petty Officer’s Academy, University of North Carolina’s Lean Manufacturing Leader course, National Defense University Joint Forces Staff College’s Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education course, USCG Leadership and Quality Institute’s Leadership and Management School, “A” School Leadership Instructor course, USCG Training Center Petaluma’s Instructor Development Course, and numerous rating related service schools. He has earned the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airframe and Powertrain license, and both of the National Safety Council’s Advanced Safety, and Manager of Environmental Safety and Health Certifications.
Master Chief Morris’ decorations and awards include one Coast Guard Commendation medal, three Coast Guard Achievement medals, one Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, seven Coast Guard Good Conduct medals and 26 additional unit and team awards.
Master Chief Morris is a second generation Guardian and a native of Fayetteville, NC. He is married to his beautiful wife Vioderka and they have two wonderful children; Ivy (10) and Kenneth (9).
