The Engineering Department is responsible for
the operation, care and maintenance of the cutter’s main propulsion plant, auxiliary machinery
and piping systems; for the control of damage; for the operation and maintenance of electric
power generators and distribution systems; for repairs to the hull; and for repairs to material
and equipment of other departments which are beyond the capacity of other departments.
The Engineering Department consists of four divisions:
Main Propulsion Division - Machinery Technicians responsible for the main diesel engines, reduction gear, controllable-pitch propellor, ship's service generators
Auxiliary Division - Machinery Technicians responsible for auxilary systems, ventilation, potable water, sewage and grey water, and hydraulics
Electrical Division - Electrician's Mates responsbile for power generation, shore ties, and standard, emergency, and casualty power routing
Damage Control Division - Damage Controlmen responsbile for responding to and repairing damage and maintenance of and training on OAK's damage control systems and equipment
