Packing For Your Move
If you plan to send an express (unaccompanied baggage) shipment prior to your move to Puerto Rico, it is suggested that it be shipped at least six to eight weeks prior to your arrival. Shipments should be addressed:

According to the USCG Postal Manual, personal mail may be addressed to the unit following a PCS move. Individuals may use the new duty station address to received personal mail for a limited period (no more than 90 days), or until a permanent home address is established.
Experience has shown that express shipments do not always arrive before the regular shipment of household goods. Plan on bringing sufficient clothes and uniforms with you to carry you throught he first few weeks. Pack suitcases so that the loss of one will not be a disaster. Hand carry essential items on flights. Temporary household kits containing pots, pans, dishes, and silverware are normally available through the Hospitality Locker. Your sponsor can prepare for this in advance. You will find that your friends and neighbors will also be more than willing to assist whenever possible.

The family quarters are unfurnished except for electric stoves and refrigerators, however you may ship your own refrigerator. While almost any type of furniture is acceptable, you should keep in mind that Puerto Rico is in the tropics and that termites and corrosion are a threat.

Before you buy certain items you are reminded that exchanges outside CONUS are authorized to sell some items not allowed in states. These items, such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, air conditioners, television sets, and automobile tires can normally be purchased at comparable cost with the states.
