GUARDIANS OF THE GULF

47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB)
Length: 47 feet
The 47' motor lifeboat is designed as a first response rescue resource in
high seas, surf and heavy weather environments. They are built to withstand
the most severe conditions at sea and are capable of effecting a rescue at
sea even under the most difficult circumstances. They are self-bailing,
self-righting, almost unsinkable, and have a long cruising radius for their
size. It is the replacement for both the aging 44' MLB fleet and 41' UTB.
The
U.S. Coast Guard's 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB), designed to operate in
extreme conditions to help save lives, is a heavy weather patrol / rescue
craft capable of answering all calls for assistance at sea. Surpassing
search and rescue technology of the past, and part of a 200 vessel program
to replace the aging fleet of 41-foot motor life- boats, the 47 MLB operates
successfully in extreme conditions, such as hurricane force winds and 20
foot plus breaking seas. Along with the ability to safely survive a complete
rollover, the boat can pitch-pole or lunge bow first, flipping end over end
into swells and right itself in less than 30 seconds. With a combination of
open and enclosed steering stations, the crew's comfort and performance is
essential.
