Command Philosophy
As your Commanding Officer, it is my responsibility to provide you my Command Philosophy, which is basically my expectation of the crew at Station Barnegat Light/Beach Haven. My command philosophy is simple and straight forward; Take care of your Shipmates. Taking care of each other sets the foundation for every mission we accept. We the people are the greatest asset to this unit and the Coast Guard. I depend on each and every one of you every day and I expect you to take care of yourselves and each other. Shipmate care is the cornerstone of all missions, tasks, and achievements and is a 24 hour a day responsibility. While taking care of our shipmates we will promote and adhere to the Coast Guards core values of Honor, Respect, & Devotion to Duty.
There are two major principles that are key to Shipmate care,
Team Work and Communication.
Teamwork is the basis to every successful mission. As a team, we all will be more productive and capable to respond to distress calls. It takes a team of motivated people to make the Coast Guard and this unit run as effectively and efficiently as possible, it takes a team to safely operate our vessels, it takes a team to ensure our vessels are operational and it takes a team to advance or promote a member. Teamwork is vital to our people being successful and our unit being “Ready for Operations”.
As leaders we must foster an environment where communication is open, frank and honest. By enabling constant communications we will ensure we meet the needs of our shipmates and customers. The importance of communication cannot be underestimated; Communication is the origin of which all good things begin.
With unwavering Shipmate care, superb Teamwork and constant Communication I am confident that Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light/Beach Haven will safely and professionally respond to and complete all assigned mission and tasks.
