Station Milford Haven is co-located with ANT Milford Haven, on 8.35 acres of land on Cricket Hill, adjacent to the Gwynn's Island Bridge in Mathews County, VA.

There are 21 Active Duty and 14 Reserve personnel assigned to the unit. The unit has one 41' UTB and one 21' Rigid Hull Inflatable boat for SAR response. Housing for single members is located on board the unit with 2 person barracks rooms. There are 8 government owned homes for married members. Married members need to submit a housing request to the Housing Officer prior to reporting to the unit.

The station's primary missions are Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, and Marine Environmental Protection on the Chesapeake Bay and its connecting tributaries. The station conducts approximately 250 SAR cases and 350 law enforcement boardings annually.

The primary job responsibilities of an SA/SN will consist of working as a member of the unit's deck force by maintaining the unit, assigned boats, and government housing. Each member will be expected to qualify as Radio Watchstander, Boatcrewmember, and Boarding Team Member in accordance with the unit's training and qualifications guidelines. Primary job responsibilities of an FA/FN will consist of working as a team member of the engineering section by maintaining all engineering related systems within the unit, assigned boats, and government owned quarters. In addition to the above qualifications, an FN/FA will be expected to qualify as a Boat Engineer.

Military installations in the area include: RTC Yorktown, about 35 miles away, which offers a small clinic, exchange, and uniform distribution center. FT Eustis Army installation, about 45 miles away, which offers a hospital, full commissary, exchange, golf course, and other various activities.
The unit has 2 morale boats, gameroom, weightroom, and full membership to Riverside Wellness and Fitness Center for all unit personnel and their dependents. RTC Yorktown maintains a fully staffed Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center, which has everything from camping equipment rental to Busch Gardens and Water Country tickets.


There are many outdoor sporting opportunities in the area. The Chesapeake Bay is known for its hard and soft shell crabs. It has produced record striped bass along with other game fish. The hunting in the area is very plentiful with numerous hunting clubs located throughout. Privately owned weapons storage is very limited, so it is advised to check with the Officer In Charge before bringing any weapons to the unit. There is also over 100 miles of small creeks to kayak or canoe in.

The area is very rich in history with the Yorktown Battlefield, Colonial Williamsburg, and Richmond, with various shops, monuments and reenactments of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

Gloucester is a small town about 11 miles away from the station, which offers 2 major grocery stores and a Wal-Mart store. The closest major city to the station is Newport News which is about 45 miles away. Newport News offers various malls along with restaurants and movie theaters. Getting over to the Newport News and Hampton Roads areas will require traveling over the Coleman Memorial Bridge, which spans the York River. There is a $2.00 toll for northbound crossings. Use of an electronic Fast Toll transponder box reduces the toll to $.50 per northbound crossing.
