Coast Guard Station Cape Charles is
located in the town of Cape Charles in Northampton County, VA on the Eastern
Shore. The Station's area of responsibility (AOR) covers an estimated 20 miles
of Atlantic coastline as well as portions of the lower Chesapeake Bay and its
tributaries. The unit is billeted with a
mixture of deck, engineering, and support personnel including ratings such as
BM, MK, FS, and SK.
Under the command of
Chief Boatswain’s Mate Justin Uyttewaal (OIC) the unit vigilantly contributes
to the Coast Guard’s primary missions of Search and Rescue, Homeland Security,
Maritime Law Enforcement, and Marine Environmental Protection. CG Station Cape
Charles conducts approximately 100 search and rescue cases and 300 law
enforcement boarding’s each year and strives to keep itself in the upper
echelon of CG District 5’s small boat units.
