Super Bowl Sunday yields for a local tradition on Long Beach Island.
At 1:00pm local time the 11th Annual Super Plunge Sunday commenced. Known for its’ famous SUMMERTIME beaches, the normally empty ocean front of Brant Beach was filled with spectators and thick skinned thrill seekers. Nearly 150 people volunteered (paid) to enter the 39ºF Atlantic Ocean water on a bitter cold winter day. Raising nearly $3,000 for the St. Francis Community Center and Southern Regional High School the event was a huge success. The Station's Crew posted offshore onboard Motor Lifeboat CG47227 to standby as safety observers and to ensure that all participates made it out of the water.
