Lieutenant Saffold is originally from Hollins, AL. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in July of 1991. After Recruit Training in Cape May, NJ he was assigned to the CGC Confidence in Cape Canaveral, FL. He completed a two year tour as a FN and transferred to ANT ST. Pete October of 1993 where he soon received orders to Electricians Mate -A- School. He Graduated EM- A- School in November of 1993 as an EM3. From EM School, he received orders to the CGC Vigorous in Cape May, NJ where he advanced to EM2 and served until July 1997. Summer of 1997 LT Saffold transferred to ANT Cape May, NJ as a Lighthouse Technician. He was promoted to EM1 in January of 1999 and was transferred to the CGC Key Largo in Savanna, GA, and transferred the cutter to Key West, FL four months later. After completing his two year tour on the CGC Key Largo in 2001, he reported to Tracen Yorktown, VA as an EM instructor. While at Tracen Yorktown he advanced to EMC, and was selected for OCS and Direct Commission in October of 2003. January 2004 he was promoted to LTJG and reported to Direct Commission Officer School. After completing the DCO five week school, he reported to NESU Boston, MA as a Port Engineer. In July of 2005 he transferred to the CGC Dependable in Cape May, NJ and served as the Damage Control Assistant. He was promoted to LT in July 2006 and Reported to Sector Delaware Bay Sector Field Office Atlantic City, NJ in March 2007 and assumed the Engineering Officer / SFO Atlantic City Supervisor position. Lieutenant Saffold’s awards include 2 Coast Guard Achievement medals with the Operational Distinguishing Device, 1 Commandants Letter of Commendation with the Operation Distinguishing Device, and 4 Good Conduct Awards.
