Security Levels




Commander DuFresne graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT, in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering, and then served as a student engineer onboard the USCGC VIGILANT in Cape Canaveral, FL.  He served at Sector Baltimore, MD, from 2002 to 2006 conducting small passenger vessel inspections, Port State Control, and waterways management.  He was then assigned as the Supervisor at Marine Safety Detachment Sturgeon Bay, WI, from 2006 to 2009 performing inspections for the Great Lakes bulk carrier fleet and new construction oversight for new chemical and oil seagoing barges.  His staff assignments include the Coast Guard Headquarters Office of Design and Engineering Standards, as a staff engineer at the Marine Safety Center, and as a strategic analyst at the Office of Strategic Management. 

Commander DuFresne earned two Master’s degrees at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in Mechanical Engineering and in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland.  He is a 2010-2011 fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI program on Foreign Politics, International Relations, and the National Interest.
