MASTER CHIEF BOATSWAINS MATE

JAMES A. BORDELL

Command Master Chief
United States Coast Guard

"It’s a privilege to serve as Sector Delaware Bay’s Command Master Chief (CMC). As the Silver Badge CMC, it is my job to represent the 500 enlisted members within the Sector while simultaneously communicating the Sector Commanders goals and direction. I do this through interaction with all personnel in the field. I communicate enlisted viewpoints and concerns directly to the Sector Commander and staff. The CMC is in a position to act as a 'field reality check' for decision makers. I am not in the chain of command; however I strengthen it by working within it. I act as an “information resource” by keeping current on issues in the Coast Guard through the CMC network and other sources. I am here to assist all Coast Guard personnel and subordinate commands as required."
