Lieutenant Peggy Britton,
originally from Poquoson, Virginia, graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard
Academy with high honors in 2000. Her first duty assignment was onboard
CGC ELM in Atlantic Beach, NC, where she earned her DWO qualification
and a love for AtoN. In 2002, she transferred to the CG International
Training Division (ITD) where she led 34 mobile training team missions
to 24 countries, predominately in Central and South America. She
instructed foreign services in U.S. Coast Guard missions, namely law
enforcement and port security. In her last year at ITD, LT Britton led
the Coast Guard’s UNITAS involvement in Uruguay, Peru and Panama. From
2005 to 2007, she served as Executive Officer of CGC KUKUI in Honolulu,
HI, and sailed over 15,000 miles of Pacific Ocean from the main Hawaiian
Islands to Samoa to Guam. In 2007, she assumed duties as a Search and
Rescue Controller at D14’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) also
in Honolulu, HI. LT Britton is the 6th Commanding Officer of
the CGC WILLIAM TATE homeported in Philadelphia, PA.
Lieutenant Britton’s personal awards include: two Coast Guard
Commendation Medals and two Coast Guard Achievement Medals. She was the
2007 recipient of the Coast Guard’s Capt. Stratton leadership award, and
a Rhodes Scholarship state finalist in 1999.
