LIEUTENANT R. David Lewald                              

LT Lewald assumed command of JAMES RANKIN in August 2009. An Annapolis MD native, LT Lewald enlisted in the Coast Guard in September 1985, attended Quartermaster A-School in 1986, and in the time since has served aboard; INGHAM, YOCONA, MONOMOY (90-92 & 96-98), RED OAK, RED WOOD, JAMES RANKIN (98-01), SEDGE, PAMLICO, and HICKORY (03-04 & 07-09)

LT Lewald’s personal awards and insignias include the Meritorious Service Medal, CG Commendation Medal (5), CG Achievement Medal (3), Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, Sea Service ribbon (8) representing over 23 years sea time and has held a Permanent Cutterman’s Pin since March 1991.
