PUBLIC AFFAIRS REQUESTS

Thank you for inquiring about US Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City as aviation support for your upcoming event.  Please read all instructions carefully. We will assist you if you have questions or concerns.

Please keep in mind that although your event may be eligible for support we may not be able to support it. With an increasingly high operations tempo and limited resources to meet our training and operational commitments we are required to take a hard look at all of our requests. If your request is denied, although it may technically be eligible for support, we are not questioning the worthiness of the event, but rather enforcing Homeland Security and Coast Guard policy to preserve the operational and training requirements of our aviation unit.

Requestors are required to obtain an FAA waiver for any public demonstration by military aircraft.  The final authorization for such demonstrations hinges upon the requestor securing this waiver far enough in advance to permit adequate planning (normally no later than 30 days prior to the event). No waiver is required for static displays, but helicopters landing at areas other than operating airports for static displays may require advance FAA clearance.  If you need assistance filling out the DD2535 Form, we have no problems helping you and may continue the forwarding process to the appropriate FSDO to assist.

Due to the increase number of request, our ever changing operational demand as well as training requirements, we cannot guarantee any events greater than 30 calendar days, however, we will process the request for action AND place it on our event calendar.  Thank you for your understanding.  All requestors will receive notification via email or phone call on the status of your request.  If the request is approved, please be prepared to provide as much information pertaining to the event to help ease the transition and moving forward with the request.

Process for submitting a Request:

A DD2535 Form and the appropriate Aircraft Request form are to be filled out for all Fly-bys, Static displays, and Demonstrations.  Only the Air Station Request form is required to be filled out for Air Station tours. Please download and fill out each form to the best of your ability. Email completed forms to the Public Affairs Officer who was assisting you to process your request as soon as possible.

To aid in processing, we ask that requests be submitted at least 45 days prior to your event. The Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) requires the DD2535 form to be submitted for all military aerial requests by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for public safety concerns. This form must be submitted 30 days prior to event.

Please visit the following link to find the nearest FSDO near the event location.  All paperwork must be returned to the applicable PAO for processing due to FSDO requirements.

Additional support information that may be required from the sponsors before the aerial demonstrations/static display/fly in requests can be approved may include the following:

1.    A recent aerial photograph, taken vertically from an altitude of higher than 1000’.

2.    An available crash crew or medical response team on site for landings.

3.    Ground-to-air communications equipment at the demonstration site (event size pending).

4.    Security for aircraft for longer durations and if overnight.

If you choose to fax the form or email it to the nearest FSDO without our help, ensure that you give us the completed/approved form for Air Station request processing.  Again, the DD2535 Form MUST be submitted to the FSDO 30 days prior to the event.

We look forward to hearing back from you and processing this request.
