The Stations primary Search and Rescue asset is the 47 foot Motor Lifeboat. These boats are the Coast Guards next generation of heavy weather multi mission craft. They are more suited to the adverse weather and sea conditions that South East Alaska dishes out than the 41 foot UTBs previously in service at Station Ketchikan. They also provide safer environment for the crew to be able to complete their mission effectively.
The latest arrivals at Station Ketchikan in 2002 are the new 25 foot Homeland Security Response boats. She has an Aluminum hull and Superstructure with a foam collar around the bow and sides instead of the traditional inflatable collar found on Rigid hull inflatables. These boats are designed for high speed response in the Homeland security theatre.
