Chief McPhilamy assumed his duties as Command Master Chief (CMC) for the
U.S. Coast Guard’s Seventeenth District (East) at Juneau, Alaska in August
2009. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in October 1989, and has served
aboard four cutters, three shore commands and at two headquarters units.
Master Chief McPhilamy has served previously as the CMC for the Maintenance
& Logistics Command Pacific, the CMC for Sector Boston, and as the
collateral duty Command Senior Chief at MSO Anchorage, where he helped in
the standup of Sector Anchorage.
Master Chief McPhilamy graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Connecticut, and an Associate in Science from Lansing Community College. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force’s Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard’s Senior Enlisted Command Master Chief course.
Master Chief McPhilamy’s military awards include three Coast Guard
Commendation
Medals, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the Commandant’s Letter of
Commendation Ribbon, three Antarctic Service Medals and two Arctic Service
Medals.
He is authorized to wear both the Cutterman’s insignia and the Marine Safety
insignia.
