Boatswain’s Mate Michael Ellis is a native of Chattanooga, TN. He enlisted
in the Coast Guard at the age of 17 and was assigned to USCG Station New
Orleans upon graduation from USCG Training Center Cape May. His past
assignments include USCGC CUSHING (WPB-1321) Mobile, AL; USCG Station
Niagara, NY; USCGC SASSAFRAS (WLB-401) Apra Harbor, Guam; Executive Petty
Officer/Plankowner USCGC PETREL (WPB-87350) San Diego, CA; Executive Petty
Officer USCG Station Ft. Myers Beach, FL; and Officer in Charge, USCG Aids
to Navigation Team San Francisco.
Prior to his assignment as the Command Master Chief
of Sector Guam, Master Chief Ellis served as the Officer in Charge of USCGC
SCIOTO (WLR-65504) .
Master Chief Ellis’s awards include (3) Coast Guard Commendation Medals with “O” devices, (2) Commandant’s Letter’s of Commendation with “O” devices, Coast Guard Presidential Unit Citation, Secretary’s Outstanding Unit Award, (3) Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendations, (4) Meritorious Team Commendations, Coast Guard “E” Ribbon, (2) National Defense Service Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Transportation 9-11 Ribbon, Coast Guard Sea Service Ribbon, (5) Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon, Coast Guard Expert Rifle Medal, CG Expert Pistol Medal. Master Chief Ellis has earned the permanent Cutterman, Coxswain, and advanced Boat Forces Insignias. He is also qualified to wear the Officer in Charge qualification pins for both afloat and ashore.
