Lieutenant Commander Gregory M. Somers reports aboard after serving as Assistant Section Chief, Polar Icebreakers and National Security Cutter Program Management for Pacific Area in Alameda, California.
Lieutenant Commander Somers earned his Permanent Cuttermen Insignia in 1999 and has nearly 12 years of sea duty. As a Quartermaster and Deck Watch Officer he served aboard CGC ESCANABA (WMEC 907) in Boston, MA and CGC CAMPBELL (WMEC 909) in New Bedford, MA. After attending Officer Candidate School, he served as Deck Watch Officer and Law Enforcement Officer aboard CGC KUKUI (WLB 203) in Honolulu, HI. He then served as Executive Officer aboard CGC NEAH BAY (WTGB 105) in Cleveland, OH and as Commanding Officer aboard CGC MORRO BAY (WTGB 106) in New London, CT
Lieutenant Commander Somers’ assignments ashore include duties as a Search and Rescue Controller at U.S. Coast Guard Group Moriches, Moriches, NY, Nautical Science Instructor and Course Coordinator at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT and Pacific Area, New Cutter Asset Implementation Representative, Alameda, CA.
Lieutenant Commander Somers’ personal military decorations include four Coast Guard Commendation Medals with operational distinguishing devices, three Coast Guard Achievement Medals with the operational distinguishing device and multiple unit and service awards.
