WELCOME ABOARD

Welcome to Coast Guard Air Station / Sector Field Office (SFO) Port Angeles!  We are looking forward to your arrival.  You should have already received, or will be receiving shortly, a Welcome Aboard Package containing several brochures and other information about the City of Port Angeles and the Olympic Peninsula.  This material may be useful in planning your transfer and should aid you in getting established in the community.

Port Angeles is the largest city on the Olympic Peninsula with a population of 19,000.  The wild and majestic Olympic National Park is right in our backyard, with world-famous Hurricane Ridge only 18 miles to the south.  Across the beautiful Strait of Juan de Fuca, 18 miles to the north, is the city of Victoria, British Columbia.  It’s hard to beat the combination of sea and mountains in the same community.

Air Station / Sector Field Office (SFO) Port Angeles has a small exchange on the base.  In the community, there are several variety, and specialty stores, as well as some fine restaurants, in the community.  The nearest shopping mall and commissary are located in Silverdale, approx 1.5 hours away.  Tacoma and Seattle are within a 2-1/2 hour drive.

Homes and apartments for rent or sale are usually available in the Port Angeles and nearby Sequim area.  Our housing office works closely with real estate companies, property managers, and real estate investors to provide members assistance in obtaining an apartment or house either as a Coast Guard lease (if qualified), or on the economy using Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH).  Due to recent changes in the leased housing program, few members qualify for Coast Guard leased housing.  Contact the Housing Office at (360) 417-5826 to obtain information on eligibility.  Temporary lodging is limited to hotels, so I encourage you to make housing arrangements before arriving.

Also, please feel free to contact my Ombudsman, Mrs. Becca Glass.  She is available to discuss the local area, schools, and provide other information that will assist you with your move.  She may be reached at by email at paas.sfoombudsman@gmail.com.
