Sector Puget Sound Enforcement Division is responsible for several unique missions ensuring waterway security and safety including Waterside Operations Management; Law Enforcement; Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS); Naval Vessel Escorts; Vessel Boarding Security Team (VBST); Recreational Boating Safety Missions; Coast Guard Auxiliary; and Major Marine Event Support. The division directly oversees the scheduling, deployment, and administration of eight patrol boats and three small-boat stations.

One of the Enforcement Division’s significant contributions to national security involves High Value Unit (HVU) escorts of strategically sensitive Navy Vessels as well as waterside security for Military Outloads (MOLs) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This mission profoundly impacts our Department of Defense partners’ ability to safely transit to and from theater and operational exercises safely.

The Enforcement Division’s VBST carries out the Recreational Boating Safety mission, Security Boardings, Federally Regulated Facility patrols, and security ride-alongs of the Washington State Ferry system. An instrumental tool of maritime security, the VBST is critical in the enforcement of safety regulations, criminal activity, and working with our port partners to keep the waterways safe.

In addition, the Enforcement Division is highly involved in operational planning and execution of several nationally significant maritime events including Sea Fair, Presidential Visits, Olympic Games, and Mobile Off-Shore Drilling Unit transits.
