CWO2 (BOSN) Jeffrey Zappen
CWO Jeffrey Zappen enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on March 3rd, 1990 where he attended Recruit Training at Cape May, NJ graduating in Class Delta 133.
CWO Zappen previous command was as the Officer in Charge, USCGC PENDANT (WYTL-65608) home ported in Boston Harbor, MA. CWO Zappen’s previous afloat units include CGC LIBERTY (WPB-1334), Auke Bay, AK, where he served as the Operations Petty Officer. Prior to this he has completed tours aboard the CGC POINT WINSLOW (WPB-82360) stationed in Morro Bay, CA and CGC KISKA (WPB-1336) stationed in Hilo, HI. CWO Zappen’s shore assignments include tours at Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Humboldt Bay, CA, where he was assigned as the Officer in Charge; CG Training Center, Petaluma, CA, as a Maritime Law Enforcement Instructor and Fire Fighter; CG Pacific Area Tactical Law Enforcement Team in San Diego, CA, as a Counter-Narcotics Officer and small boat coxswain; CG Port Security Unit 302, Buffalo, NY, there he served as a Maritime Security Team Leader during Operation Uphold Democracy; and finally CG Station Charlevoix, MI as a MLB/UTB coxswain.
CWO Zappen worked through the ranks as a Boatswain mate and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer (BMCS) on April 1st, 2008. He was appointed to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer on June 1st, 2011. CWO Zappen is also a graduate of the Chief Petty Officer Academy Class 133 and Chief Warrant Officer Professional Development Class 06-11.
CWO Zappen’s awards include two Coast Guard Commendation Medal with Operational device, three Coast Guard Achievement Medals with Operational device, three Commandant’s Letter of Commendations with Operational device, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and numerous other unit and service decorations. His qualifications include Command Afloat and Ashore (Multi-Mission), Command Ashore (AtoN), permanent Cutterman insignia, Coxswain insignia, Port Security Unit insignia, Tactical Law Enforcement insignia and Advanced Boat Force Operations insignia.
