To effectively communicate with vessels requiring the drawbridge to lift…
You should be able to do the following.
  1. Respond to communications when a vessel makes a proper Advance Call.
    a. No passenger train expected.
    b. Passenger train expected at the same time as the Lift Request call.
  2. Respond to communications when a vessel makes and incomplete or incorrect Advance call.
    a. No estimated Lift Request time.
    b. Lift Request time given as number of minutes from now (e.g., “…in 30 minutes”).
    c. Estimated time of arrival at the draw span reported instead of estimated lift request time (e.g., I’ll be at the bridge at…”).
    d. Location of next call reported instead of estimated lift request time (e.g., “…will call when I’m at…”).
  3. Through communications, resolve a situation when drawbridge problems arise between the Advance Call and Lift Request call.
  4. Respond to communications when a vessel makes a Lift Request call.

  5. a. Lift starts. No mechanical problems with the drawbridge.
    b. Lift fails to start. Drawbridge malfunction.
    c. Lift will start soon. Temporary obstruction on the bridge.
  6. Respond to communications when a vessel cancels a lift request.
  7. Initiate communications with vessels and VTS in an emergency.
