Mission

Aids to Navigation (ATON)

NOAA Buoy Aspen's primary mission is Aids to Navigation, more commonly know as ATON. Aspen is responsible for over 180 aids that mark the navigable waterways along the California coast.

Aspen is also responsible for 13 NOAA bouys along the California coast. These buoys provide all mariners with weather and sea condition information. These bouys are monitored at the National Buoy Data Center (NBDC). Current weather and sea state information can be accessed by visiting the National Buoy Data Center website.
