Welcome to Station Montauk's website. If you have just received orders or are just curious about us you should find this site very helpful.
Montauk is located 2 1/2 hours east of New York City on the the most eastern tip of Long Island. Montauk is a small hamlet that is part of the town of East Hampton with 3,000 permanent residents. During the summer months, the population can swell to over 250,000 people. The main industry is tourism and fishing, along with a variety of outdoor activities. Montauk is known as the "sport fishing capitol of the world".
Boatswainsmates (BM) and Machinery Technicians (MK) make up most of the stations personnel, but we also have a Store Keeper (SK), and two Food Service Specialists (FS). Station Montauk's small boats consist of one 47' MLB and one 25' RB-S. Station Montauk is also home to the 87' Coast Guard Cutter Ridley.
Coast Guard Station Montauk conducts search and rescue (SAR) and law enforcemement (LE) operations for Gardiners Bay, Napeague Bay, Block Island Sound and out 50 nautical miles offshore. Due to the less than favorable conditions during the winters, some of Station Montauks Coxswains(Boat Operators) are also qualified to operate the 47' MLB in heavy weather conditions, ready and able to respond in adverse weather conditions. Station Montauk also conducts inter-agency SAR and LE operation with East Hampton Marine Patrol and the NY Department of Enviornmental Conservation. Station Montauk is also part of the East End Maritime Law Enforcement Task Force, which was created to strengthen and align maritime partnership between, local, state, and federal agencies within our AOR.
Our Unit is also the recipient of the Sumner Kimball Readiness Award for our May 2011 STAN Team visit. This award is given only to those boat force units that demonstrate an extraordinary state of readiness in administration, operation, maintenance and training during a rigorous inspection that occurs every 2 years. Our crew demonstrated endless dedication in preparation for the STAN Team inspection and is extremley proud of the outcome.
